5 Ways to Grow on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a great tool for professionals and businesses to grow their brand. Let’s dive into a few ways you can network your way to the top of newsfeeds and grow on LinkedIn.

  1. Make sure your profile is completed as much as possible.

One of the reasons I love LinkedIn for personal or brand growth is that they tell you how your profile compares to other users. When you fill out the different sections, add a photo, cover photo, etc. your profile will progress in strength. Add in past achievements, volunteer experience, your degrees, past and current jobs and speaking engagements to help boost your profile in strength and widen the searches you will appear in.

  1. Connect with past and present colleagues and peers.

This can be a more tedious step, but when you make connections you’re growing your personal brand. Make a list of all the people you have encountered in current and past jobs and ask to connect. LinkedIn will suggest this as well, but consider adding a personal message to your connection request. Adding a message is a great way to jog the person’s memory of who you are if it has been a while and to make the interaction more personal! The more connections you have the more likely you are to show up in the suggested connections of people with similar backgrounds who you may want to consider connecting with. Word of caution, do not accept requests from people you don’t know and don’t request to connect with people you’ve never met!

  1. Stay Engaged with Your Page by Posting, Liking and Sharing.

If you’re a speaker at an event, add it to your page! Participation in events like this and sharing them will show industry members what you’re up to and how you’re engaged with your industry. Same goes for any new awards and recognitions. Let people know you’re killing it in your field! This can help when you’re looking for a job, open to speaking engagements, establishing yourself as an industry thought leader and more. It’s also important for you to post regularly since it’s what people see first when they visit your profile. Liking and sharing articles is a great way to stay present in the digital realm of your industry.

  1. Engage with Other Pages by Liking, Commenting and Sharing.

This is a huge part that is often forgotten on LinkedIn. Talk with your connections and pages you follow. Set aside some time each day or whatever is manageable for your schedule, and start liking and commenting on posts. Linkedin shares when you have commented or liked a post with your connections in their newsfeeds. Seeing your activity could inspire them to look at your profile, engage with your comment or the post and even start a private conversation about the topic.

  1. Get involved in Groups and be a part of the conversation.

LinkedIn has a number of ways for you to take part in conversations that occur outside of your connected network. Search industry related terms and see if there are groups that focused on those topics. Not only will this help you share your industry knowledge, but it will get your name and your brand in front of an audience you otherwise wouldn’t interact with. Groups are also a great place for you to share your knowledge with others in your industry, for their benefit and yours!

There you have it, five simple ways to grow on LinkedIn. Whether your goal is to post or find jobs, connect with others in your industry or establish your voice amongst industry conversations, the heart of the matter is still the same- networking!
