While we’ve seen a steady increase in all forms of online shopping over the years, the current pandemic will very likely spur record online shopping numbers this holiday season. Subsequently, we predict earlier-than-ever holiday buying due to availability and shipping concerns.

With all that in mind, my top piece of advice for businesses is to lean into incentive marketing early and often. Consumers are likely to be very receptive to things like early-bird sales and expedited shipping for loyalty customers or members, as shipping will be top of mind, as well as promos such as Buy One Get One free, which can ensure having enough gifts to give everyone or perhaps serve as an excuse for some self-gifting, aka “treat yo-selfing.
